Understand what happens during a chemical reaction and how to spot the signs that one has occurred.

In a chemical reaction, substances (reactants) are rearranged into new substances (products) with different properties — this is different from a physical change like melting, where no new substance is formed. Signs of a chemical reaction include a colour change, gas being produced, a temperature change, or a new solid (precipitate) forming.
We look at a few everyday examples, including rusting and baking, and explain what's happening in scientific terms.
