Every story has characters (the people or animals it's about), a setting (where and when it happens) and a plot (what happens). When we read, we can ask questions like 'How is the character feeling?' and 'Why did they do that?' to understand the story more deeply.
We practise retelling a story in our own words and predicting what might happen next based on the clues the author has given us.
