Introduction to Algebraic Expressions
Learn what algebraic expressions are and how to simplify them by collecting like terms.
Study Duration
12 Min
In algebra, letters stand in for unknown numbers. An expression like 3x + 5x combines two 'like terms' (both are multiples of x), so we can simplify it to 8x.
We practise identifying like terms, simplifying expressions, and substituting numbers in for letters — for example, if x = 4, then 8x = 32.
